[Oh, all right, just to allay curiosity, we haven't had a chance to hook up with Minerva and her friends, including the tantalizing Tim, as of yet. They are known to frequent Friday happy hour at a certain bar, and John and I had planned to be there last Friday. Didn't work out for a couple of reasons. This Friday is the exciting Leah's birthday, and it seems unlikely that one of the stops on what is sure to a be a mammoth pubcrawl will be the bar in question. I haven't quite gotten up the courage to ask John to contact Athena so we can meet in another context, so this particular intrigue may take a while. I'll be sure to keep you up to date.]

[The New York Times and Salon have identically ideal solutions to the debacle in Florida. Simply recount all the state's votes, and go by the result. The only reason Republican could object to this is because they're worried they won't win. The Republican Secretary of State's argument that the law says the election needs to be certified today is discredited by the caveat that it can be suspended by unusual circumstances: I'd call a presidential election this close an unusual circumstance, to say the least. And the Republicans seem to have no objection to a recount in the other close states.]

[John and I are about to welcome a new roommate. The financial realities of renting an apartment in the most expensive rental market in North America have finally bitten us in the butt. I haven't chosen a pseudonym for him yet, but we'll have a new presence in our lives come Saturday.]
