2001-01-26 - 13:10:07 Calm Before The Storm [It's been a nothing week, which isn't such a bad thing, since this weekend and the the following week AND the following weekend promise to have many goings-on. John and I are, um, between fundings at the moment, and my poor guy has a nasty cold, so it's just as well that the social arena has been quiet.] [All that will change starting tomorrow, however! We are STOKED, DUDE, to be seeing the Donnas tomorrow night at the Fillmore. John picked up their latest disc upon its release, and it's been spinning (CD's still spin, right?) in our player all week.] [Sunday, my sister and her hub are hosting a Super Bowl party at their new place in Oakland. John and I will brave BART to the scary but somehow compelling Fruitvale station, where we hope to be picked up in short order and driven to Kate and Mike's. Neither of us cares much about football (I can't remember the last time I sat thru a whole game), but Kate has a wacky group of friends, so it won't matter if we sit outside with the smokers the entire time and discuss...anything else. 'Twill be fun.] [The middle of next week is Grandmama's 83rd, and John and I will again be compelled to meet up with Kate and Mike to drive up to the unlovely, but conveniently located, city of Vallejo to meet her and my parents for a birthday dinner. Grandma is not your typical octogenarian: she only quit smoking a couple of years ago, and she was most famous for a cigarette in one hand, a martini in the other, and a caustic comment for any occasion. She was ideal Auntie Mame-ish elder for an impressionable gay youth. Oh, yes, we'll go to Vallejo, or Timbuktu, for her birthday.] [And finally, the follwoing Saturday, Mom and I enjoy my Christmas present to her. If you're not a queer son who loves his ma, you probably wouldn't understand. Depite the lukewarm reviews, we'll have a ball.] | |
