2001-05-29 - 8:33 a.m. L.A. Freeways and Tuesdays Always Get Me Down [Got a chuckle this morning from Joey's travails on the L.A. freeways. How well I remember that confounding pretzel, the East L.A. interchange! Geek that I am, I took several solo trips to La-La Land from Santa Barbara to explore those twisty lines that looked so alluring in my trusty 1995 Thomas Guide. While I never Left My Wallet In El Segundo, I did almost leave my sanity on the San Diego Freeway. Oh, the 405, you foul temptress. You SEEM like the perfect artery, with convenient access to everything from my relatives in the Valley, to West Hollywood, to LAX, to shopping heaven-and-hell in Costa Mesa. But, nooooo...that hour it took me to go the short distance between Culver City and the airport, at 3PM on a Sunday, is burned on my brain!] [Anyway. I had a delightful breakfast yesterday with Sean and Tom, who have now been friends longer than they dated. Chilaquiles, grapefruit Penafiel and hilarity in the Mission. Met up with John in Specific Whites - er, Pacific Heights - and saw With A Friend Like Harry (good, creepy). Walked home via a little shopping in the always surreal Japantown ("expired" udon and Hello Kitty candy for a dollar at Ichiban Kan), and, later, unnecessary- but-fun barhopping in the Castro.
