Charmed!

[Lots of laughter last night with my parents, my sister and John at Le Charm, yet another moderately priced, down-to-earth, FANTASTIC French restaurant. Saint-Veran Chardonnay was followed by Selby Syrah (so we covered France and Healdsburg), tartinettes of potato, cheese and caramelized onions were followed by NY steak and pommes Maxime, and bad cabaret was followed by late-night "dancing around in his socks" to Kirsty MacColl's "Treachery" with my boyfriend. NOW I feel like my birthday's been well and truly celebrated.]

[I also had my first Kaiser Permanente experience yesterday. You don't want to know the condition for which I was treated (nothing major, just gross), but I do want to tell you that the assembly-line routine...wasn't so bad. No long waits, no crusty old medical assistants who've worked in Dr. X's office since the Eisenhower administration. My nurse practitioner was a eminently sensible woman who took one look, asked some pertinent questions, talked me into getting tested for HIV again, and sent me on my way prescription in hand, all within seven minutes. Zip to the pharmacy, zap to the lab for an efficient blood extraction, and gone. I'm sure that if I had something complicated, it might be off-putting to be treated so briskly, but for this, I really can't complain.]
