September 08, 2001 - 4:16 PM Seen by My Stream of Consciousness [In the background: "Pretty Mess" by Vanity. John's got his vinyl out; be afraid.] [In the foreground: the address for some coffee joint in a part of Oakland I have yet to discover how to get to. Somewhere in a shoebox is a current AC Transit map showing which BART station and bus line will take me to tomorrow's meeting of a buncha bloggers. This ought to be really interesting. I only know what a few of these people even look like and...well, I've never done anything quite like this before.] [In the middle distance: a bottle of Elements Aqua cologne by Hugo Boss, unavailable domestically, which John cadged from a sister of a coworker on a recent trip London. Very expensive, and sweetly fragrant. So expensive and so fragrant, in fact, that we're not even keeping it in the medicine cabinet with the other, mostly free, smellers we got courtesy of Patrick's former job behind the perfume counter at...no, not Horne's Department Store, but Macy's. Hmmm...I'm dreaming up a gay version of the Twin Peaks subplot, in which delicate retail queens are ensorceled into prostitution over the border by working behind a perfume counter at the Serramonte Macy's. More on that later.] [And in front of it all: helping John put together his company picnic, which I will be attending tomorrow in Golden Gate Park before heading over to Oakland. We still have to buy gift pack items for two eleven year old girls, and ingredients for his macaroni salad. Beside the obvious, his macaroni salad contains mayonnaise, tuna, peas, and will be topped with devilled eggs, and has to sit overnight. For all of those reasons, I will not be eating it.] [And what are you daydreaming about?] | |
