June Gloom Slowly Lifting

[Where've I been? Well, that cute, low pressure summer job at the Boutique Hotel Around The Corner turned out to be a lot more stressful (especially for the money) than anticipated, and so, starting Monday, I'll be back on my lazy ass at a reception desk, this time for some lawyers downtown. More money, a more "professional" atmosphere (whatever that means), and I'll get to see how a law firm runs. (John's comment: "But we watched so many episodes of "Ally McBeal" way back when; what more do you need to know?")]

[John's between-jobs period looks like it's about to come to an end, as well. We won't jinx it by going into too many details, but it'll sure be nice to be a two-full-income household again, even if it's just until school starts again at the end of August. This has been a really rough month, but that light at the end of the tunnel shows every sign of not being an oncoming locomotive.]

[I turned 33 this week, flying under the radar (and a fairly noticeable eclipse) with just a few friends, nibbling one of the best box-made cakes ever and sipping margaritas at the Friendly Neighborhood Cabaret. Have I finally reached the point where birthdays don't need to mean feeling miserable before (trying to corral dozens of friends to some venue), during (DRAMA), and after (fatigue and hangover)? Perhaps.]

[Last summer's concert season was sort of a bust, but since we've found an "in" with the company that runs the Warfield and Fillmore venues here in S.F., it looks as though John and I will be seeing a few very low-cost shows this summer. We already caught the Pet Shop Boys last week at the Warfield (I know, I know, but their latest album isn't the tired gay disco confection they've been hawking for years; stripped down, even acoustic in spots, with a clever response to Eminem's "Stan." Check it out...), and we're looking forward to spanning the last few decades with the B-52's, the Cranberries, and Pink in the next month or so.]

[And now that my feet won't be constantly sore, I'm looking forward to being less cranky and more inclined to update here more often.]
