Yet So Far

[Today's email from Mom (my edits in brackets):]

Grandma has been in the hospital, again. Anemia, again. They've given her 5 pints of blood. She had a [procedure] because she was bleeding [internally] somewhere. They're blaming it on coumadin and have cut it out all together. It definitetly was doing more harm than good. She was told by the physical therapist she needed to go to a nursing home for therapy because she isn't strong enough to be on her own. She said no! She wants to go home.

That was yesterday. I then proceeded to find home care. $275 for 24 hour care, a day! Today I found Kaiser will pay for up to 100 days, which it shouldn't, be this time anyway. So because of her way about money I convinced her to go to the nursing home. It's free! She goes to [skilled nursing facility] here in Sonoma tomorrow. If you have time please call her today or tonight at (707) [xxx-xxxx] and encourage her its the right thing so she doesn't change her mind. She may listen to anybody but me. She did agree but she was in the middle of a nose bleed at the time and quite agitated. Call me I need a hug myself. Love Mom.

[It's not Grandma, so much; I've been in pre-mourning for over a year now. It's Mom. There are times when I really hate this urban lifestyle in which there's no car to hop into, to make that simple hour's drive and simply be there. Hapless, helpless, hopeless.]
