Am I A Freak Like Him?

[Can I just share for a moment what a cool boyfriend I have? Does he have the steadiest of moods? No. Is he fabulously wealthy? No. Has he outgrown an obsession with girl- and boy-band pop music? No. Does he put away his clothes when he takes them off at night? No.]

[He does, however, buy the best presents, and can't wait until Christmas for the recipients to open them. So far, I've been gifted with a framed color copy of photo of the decrepit room with the open door the weird old lady gave to Laura Palmer in Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me (upon presenting the package, he even said "Wouldn't this look nice on your wall?" Goosebumps), AND the original cast recording of Boy George's play Taboo, which we saw in the West End last February.]

[It doesn't get any better for thirtysomething fags wading in the shallow end of outre, and I'm NEVER going to able top it. I'd better just go back to cleaning the house (good little wifey), which I now have time for, because exams are OVER!]

[(Side note apropos to girlpop: This morning, as he was getting dressed, John serenaded me with "Are You A Freak Like Me," and was sure to inform me that he was singing current U.K. confectioneers Sugababes' cover of the Adina Howard nastylittleditty. It suddenly dawned on me that Sugababes' name is a direct, uh...tribute? to the Spice Girls. I thought maybe I could start a group called Everything Nice Chicks, and then I drifted off back to sleep.)]
