Huntington An Introduction Recently Read them instead: Political Compass: |
March 26, 2003 - 7:41 PM Stick The Proverbial Fork In Me [When all else fails, declare completion. One year ago, for a required 1-unit class called Intro to Progressive Law, I decided to write the required book report on Angela Alioto's Straight To The Heart: Political Cantos. The report was only to prove we'd read it, a page or two at most. After I'd gone thru five pages spewing forth my every thought about San Francisco politics, I finally said enough. I'd be surprised to learn that the instructor (who's also the dean of the law school) even read it all the way thru.] [Well, she's gonna have to read what comes next. I've got 13 pages of single-spaced, agonized-over typed pages of questionable coherence set to go in this year's law journal, which, because of my and another author's contribution, we on the editorial board are thinking about changing to a journal of public interest law AND politics.] [Most importantly, in the last week, and tonight, I finally finished. There's no time for much editing: if the rest of the editorial staff concludes it's not fixable, it's not going in, but I'm not facing weeks of editing. In three weeks or so, it will be bound in a book...or won't be published at all. I forgot how good it feels to complete something you've cared about, stressed about, and put off doing for a long, long time.] | |
