April 18, 2003 - 10:23 AM I'm Lucky I Still Have An Identity To Steal [For once, no school and no work. It behooves me to get going on my outlines, sadly neglected for the better part of this semester. Next week is the last week of classes, and finals are upon us.] [I didn't do terribly well at midyear, but I'm hoping I know enough of what I did wrong (need more time for rule memorization, can spend less time making sure my anaysis is perfect) to make up for the medicocre marks. Study, study, cram, cram.] [Today's such a beautiful day, however, that I think I'll take the cable car to Fisherman's Wharf and ferry to Alcatraz with John and two more Rochester friends, who have ventured west of Indiana for the first time ever this week. I think what I need is a touristy day in my city to restore some vigor.] [Something's gotta do it: I've lost my ATM card twice in the past week. First, last Friday, I left in the BofA machine at Market and Van Ness. When I went to use it to buy a Blue Book citation manual at the Hastings law school bookstore twenty minutes later, it wasn't in my wallet. Oops! I rushed back to the bank, they didn't have it, and the pleasant customer service voice assured me I'd have it within seven to ten business days. It arrived to much relief three days later; I can't believe how powerless I felt without the power of instant purchase. Bleah.] [So yesterday, I'm with Rochester Terri (as opposed to Rochester Mary, who's in town for her sister's impending childbirth) in the checkout line at the Geary Trader Joe's (we'd been shopping for last night's Ali G. video party), and the card wasn't in the wallet again! I had to PUT BACK THE WINE just so we could pay for the rest with scraped-together cash. (Well, I thought it was the least pathetic choice - the veggie chicken patties, the soy nuts, and the milk...but it vexed me greatly.) I had used the new card to take out cash the night before last, but it was in one of those ATMs where it doesn't go in the machine. I'm sure I put it back in my pocket after I swiped it. However, Leah and I had had several with dinner at the Elite Cafe, and one after (so I could listen to her complain about her boyfriend, who had shown up late to dinner) at the new R Bar on Sutter, so maybe I did a drunken smooth move. Ah, well, the new card's on its way.]
