Here Are The Lyrics

[Ask and you really shall receive. You just have to ask very urgently, and be willing to take all the consequences of your request. I've always maintained that I "invoked" John, while spinning right round (like a record, baby) by myself on a dance floor a little over six years ago. Last week, I urgently asked for "something to sing about" (a line from a song from the Buffy musical episode), and the cosmos has seen fit to provide.]

[As close readers of this space and of a few others may have gathered, things have been less than stellar on the home front for a number of weeks. I'm told that every relationship goes thru its bad patches, but this...well, this has been one. It's affected my mood, it's affected my work, it's affected the way I think and feel about everything. Hence, the plea for relief.]

[I shy away from unironic religious metaphors, but there is no other word than "blessed" to describe the gestures of friendship that have been coming my way lately. Friends listening, friends calling, friends staying on our living room couch (but not in a bad way), even one long-lost, very good friend making First Contact after almost four years. It's been an amazingly concentrated combination of that-which-I-needed, and it has made all the difference.]

[John and I are taking off to Santa Barbara this weekend, and while I may be tempted to draw from that friendship well even more while there, the trip needs to be mostly about the two of us, because there's still work to do. However, I wouldn't have the energy to do the work without what has come my way this week. If anyone's listening, and needs to be thanked, consider it done.]
