August 27, 2003 - 8:31 AM Fiat Lex [This is more like it. While the first week of school never involves learning anything of substance, it felt fantastic to be back there yesterday. Wills & Trusts is taught by a younger version of John Goodman, not much refinement, but no B.S. either. For Remedies we have a seemingly very relaxed Japanese-American gent who looks as though he's seen it all. Neither subject is of tremendous interest (though I'm beginning to get the idea that pumping out wills and trusts can be a private practicing attorney's bread and butter), but if what they say is true, the third year of law school is the easiest, at least as far as subject matter goes.] [Tonight: elective time! I'd mulled taking a special class on the Patriot Act, but that would've meant skipping Civil Trial Skills, and taking Criminal Trial Skills next semester. While I don't see myself as a trial lawyer at all, I especially see myself as neither a criminal defense type nor (god forbid) a prosecutor. So, tonight it's International Human Rights, which will finally get my interest in other countries' legal systems, and how they butt up against ours, an airing.] [Tomorrow are Ethics and Civil Trial Skills, and that's my semester. The law review is floating around there, too, and planning for that (while so far almost completely in my head) seems also to be getting off the ground.] [Back to life!!!!!!!] | |
