January 28, 2004 - 10:02 AM Law, Cocktails, Tactility [Is this what being a lawyer is like? Like Edina complaining to Patsy about parenthood: Darling, I had to think about the law the entire time yesterday. Two classes, a law review meeting with the Dean, and going over multi-state practice questions at the weekly writer's studio. (I think the novel is on hold until after the Bar.)] [All Law All The Time...by 7:30, Missy was ready for a cocktail. While it may seem that all I've been doing lately is wallowing in self-pity, the truth is that, barring exceptions like last Friday's sushi-and-sake excess with Sean and Alicia, the general trend has been that I've been so busy that I've been forgetting to drink. Trust me to need a Tickler to Get Decadent. I called Sean to see what he was up to. He invited me up to the bar at the Friendly Neighborhood Cabaret for a little drinky while he cleaned up and closed down. (The FNC, under new management, has opened the bar even when the Cabaret's dark, the situation that obtained last night.) One drink turned into two and a generous half as the current performer's drummer, a friend of a friend, Sean, and I batted jollities back and forth like balloons. Fun.] [Sean asked me to run a few errands for him that required roving about the Cute Victorian Hotel Around the Corner, to which the FNC is attached. I haven't worked there for four and a half months, and it was weird seeing what's changed under the new ownership, and what's stayed the same.] [After kicking us all out of the bar, Sean accompanied me back to the Downtown House, where he ate a sandwich, I ate a brownie, and (after Allen came home) we watched the latest Sex and the City. (Samantha makes chemo look glamorous - while the episode was entertaining, I wonder what message is sent by the whole hair-loss-as-the-only-side-effect theme. Tune in next week.) A shoulder and upper back rub from me drew deep "mmmmm's" from Allen, and made me happy, too. Ah, physical contact, even at this mostly platonic level - a tonic I forget too often to apply.] | |
