June 3, 2004 - 10:33 PM I Told Them I Don't Even Know Anybody In Toronto [So, for the entire month that I've been in the New D.T. Apt., I've put off transferring the phone from the house down the street (where I'd moved it from the Old D.T. Apt. last fall when John and I got the house). John does some freelance web design, and had asked me not to transfer the DSL until his new roommates had signed up for new service. I complied, not really needing internet access all that much in the short term.] [Finally, John gave me the all clear the other day, and yesterday I finally got around to calling SBC. These service calls always make one feel like they're eating up valuable minutes that one will never get back, don't they? After I negotiated the usual automatic voice labyrinth, a Very Nice Tech Dude spent a good twenty minutes getting the service transferred, informing me with the highest regret that, while the landline would go live this morning at 9 A.M., DSL wouldn't be available until next Monday. That's OK, said I, I've pigged along with dial-up for months. Wow, said VNTD, you're the first person who's said that to me. Question: are folks irritably impatient for DSL for reasons other than downloading porn?] [Anyway, since I was gone by 9 this morning to the Bar review torture session, I didn't have an opportunity until this afternoon to check whether I had a dial tone. It appeared I didn't, so there I was again, voice prompt labyrinth, etc. "Excuse me, where's my dial tone?" Very Nice Tech Dudette says they're behind, try again after 5:00. Grrrr...] [OK, so it's working. This is my first post from my first solo apartment. People tell me my life will change drastically from here on...] | |
