August 10, 2004 - 10:44 PM Citius, Altius, Fortius [One of the byproducts of my media boycott during the last few weeks of Bar prep, the exam, and the subsequent vacation, was that I completely missed any pre-Olympics hype. The Tin Man reminds us of one of the pure pleasures of the Games: ogling athletes in sports one normally doesn't catch on regular teevee. I'll be watching the opening ceremonies, and (if they're anything like the Atlanta opener, which actually made both me and Susanna cry with the It's-A-Small-World sentimental optimism) will probably be moved.] [I'm also looking forward to seeing Greece again, even if it's only via satellite. Nope, more than a year on, my Hellenophilia hasn't waned. I made the rockingest Greek salad during my sequestration with Jessica.] ************* [I'm conservative about the oddest things: seeing that the Ranger had posted a link to the encouraging Electoral Vote Predictor, I was caught once again disapproving of the evermore widespread use of the two-letter post office state abbreviations. I prefer the old fashioned ones, like Fla. and Tenn. I live in "Calif." (or "Cal."), not CA, goddammit!] ************* [Jury duty so far avoided. I must have a lucky group number or something. I learned in Civil Trial Skills class that I'm a terrible choice for a juror, so I'm not too worried even if I make it to selection. I think (I hope!) I'd find being on a jury interesting, but I'm busy job-hunting right now.] ************* [First World Problems: After Jessica and I left Vince's L.A. abode last week, we discovered we'd somehow packed his cell phone charger, which is identical to both of ours. We called him to notify, and he told us he'd already picked up a replacement; heaven forfend Senor Popular should be unconnected for more than five minutes. Anyway, when I finally unpacked yesterday, I found that I'd slipped his charger into my baggage as well! Well-traveled little piece of plastic and rubber and wire.] ************ [Lyric du moment: "I was looking for a job and then I found a job/And heaven knows I'm miserable now." I know, I know...this is what I signed up for...and a regular paycheck will be a welcome change.] | |
