November 06, 2004 - 11:49 AM Bless me, at least it's over [One of the worst weeks of a generally bad year ends today...] [1. While the malady that had me wondering if I'd ever digest anything normally again had mostly faded by Monday, I still get the occasional shimmy-shake down there in my axis of evil.] [2. Tuesday.] [3. Wednesday. Gray, drizzly, gloomy. Despite a jolly interlude at the tchotchke shop on Polk where Allen has taken part-time employment, I spent much of the day wandering the city streets feeling for the first time as if my country had personally attacked me.] [4. Kept not returning phone calls from a friend who deserved to have her calls returned. Guilt built as I became too embarrassed by the initial non-returned calls to return the subsequent calls. Has this ever happened to anyone else?] [5. Along about Wednesday, cold symptoms also began to present. Cough, cough. COUGH, COUGH!!!] [6. Thursday, Violet invited me to a Gershwin concert at the Jewish Community Center. It was beautiful, but I was only half there since I wanted to cough every second, and had to hold it in until each song finished. "Rhapsody In Blue" is pretty magnificent, still, United Airlines notwithstanding.] [7. No Friday night work at the Friendly Neighborhood Cabaret, since my cold symptoms really hit their crest. This is bad because it makes me a little money, and, even more, it makes me feel a part of something for a few hours. Grumped at home instead, rereading M.F.K. Fisher's The Art of Eating, coughing, and feeling sorry for myself.] [Well, hell: it's Saturday, that damned week is over, and my cold feels like it's on the way out. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off...] [P.S. Oh, and I saw The Grudge this week, too. Dumb but somewhat scary, and I got my Sarah Michelle Gellar fix. Every time she was menaced by Japanese spirits, I wanted to holler "Take out your spike and get 'em, Buffy!"] | |
