Amazing Adventures

[Surreal experience of the week, so far: being the one on Sunday to tell Rita Moreno's husband, and therefore La Dama herself, that Johnny Carson had died, and fielding her polite refusal to talk to local news cameras about it. For once, she decided not to be the Bay Area's Local Outpost of Celebrity.]

[Yesterday: not a bad day. An immense, yet still overpriced breakfast at the Castro's Cove Cafe; a few hours volunteering at My Little Volunteer Opportunity; getting signed up to a new cell account with a brand new number; calling folks with the new info and reacquainting myself with Sprint's voice mail voice; lentils, tortilla chips, and The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay for dinner; a very Something Wicked This Way Comes walk to middle Fillmore finally to see Bad Education (excellent; there have been attempts to make homoerotic film noir, but Almodovar is the first in my experience to get it right); to bed early, with more Kav & Clay.]

[This is my well-deserved weekend.]

[Later: Oh, OK, I forgot that the Oscar nominations, which usually require a comment from me, came out today. All I want to say: Giamatti, Streep, and Bad Education wuz robbed. (Later still: Kusala sets me somewhat, um, straight.) Eh, I don't feel strongly enough about it because I haven't seen enough movies this year. Going alone to the Clay Theater last night was somewhat of an achievement for me: when I wasn't single, going to the cinema alone was no big deal.]
