February 12, 2005 - 11:35 AM I Like To Watch [So tonight I'm gonna be coat-check girl at a historic event. This is so my life lately that the chapter in my memoir covering 2004 and -05 is going to be titled "Coat-Check Girl To History." Whether it's attending the first hearings regarding San Francisco's marriage licenses a year ago because I was interning at the city attorney's office; meeting James Hormel and spouse (why can't I ever remember his name?) at Lovely Rita's show a couple of weeks ago (and being busily brusque to the very nice gentlemen); or taking what I'm sure will be a luxurious coat from, say, Willie Brown's people tonight at City Hall, I am on the sidelines with an excellent view.] [It's not bad. A passive view is better than no view at all. I'm doing this tonight because a good friend is coordinating the event, and because it's the only way I'm keeping my little toe in the water w/r/t political involvement. A gala evening at City Hall is better than anything else I might have planned, and I still get to spend the rest of the weekend watching starry-eyed couples watch Paula West sing "My Funny Valentine" (among other, more adventurous fare; she pushes the limits of what's normally considered cabaret, doesn't she?).] [I'm both a voyeur and an exhibitionist. I'd better get my own act together, as I sense people will be watching me sometime soon (I took up a lot of a few people's attention last year, I know), but for now...] | |
