May 02, 2005 - 12:00 PM Aplomb [Three weekends in a row:] [1. 48, 30-ish, and 24. [No common denominator except interest in this derelict carcass. Allen says I can't claim low sexual self-esteem anymore. Hmph.] ****************** [Good times last night actually watching a show at the FNC instead of working one. Sister Kate and brother-in-law Mike came to see Judith Owen. (That terrible pic on her site is also her CD cover photo, and is totally unrepresentative.) The show was sadly underattended (she's performing tonight; if you're in San Francisco and have nothing to do, why not come see her?), but she doesn't seem like the type to market herself aggressively, or aggressively enough.] [Who to my wondering eyes should appear at the Owen show but a certain 8-legged Daddo and his own Keith. I had no idea they were in town, and they had no idea I work at the FNC. They were getting obnoxious (I bet it was just Aaron) on Manhattans and the romance of a corner booth. "Play something happy for the people," quoth A., ebulliently. While we do do ebullient at the cabaret, it's all contextual, and Mr. Carruthers stood out like the ray of sunshine he is.] [I said goodbye to pregnant sis and patient bro-in-law. Kate really, really wants a cocktail, but is being good. My grandmother never paused in drinking when pregnant with my mom, and Mom's...well, I was gonna say an ox, but that seems inappropriate. Ditto when Mom was expecting Kate, and smoking. I know all this concern is well-founded, and it's Kate's business, but it all seems a little alarmist.] [Aaron and Keith invited me for a post-concert cocktail at the glamorous and historic Redwood Room, a boite of some significance to the Dynamic Duo evidently. Me, Jessica took me there the day I finished taking the Bar last summer, and I hadn't been back since. It's in my neighborhood, but...] [Anyway, we had a lovely time. Friendship via blogging is weird, and this was only the third time in like five years that A. and I have been in the same room, and the first time we've really been able to talk. It was grand; they're a grand couple who really seemed to be managing with aplomb their first weekend away from the kid.] [And I think that's it.] | |
