Moment to Moment

[Standing at that windy, fateful corner, Market Street and Van Ness Avenue, 12:30-ish in the morning, rather too much but-who's-counting pounding in our heads. We'd given up on a bus and had been wildly flailing at every already-engaged taxi as it sped by.]

[Catching my eye from around the lightpost, you said, "I think it's important that you and I have a healthy relationship."]

[Earlier in the evening, as I shared a banquette with Arthur and Leah, with you and Sean on stools across from us, and all of us laughing, I was very conscious that this was one of those moments from one of those movies about a circle of friends. I chuckled discreetly at my own awareness and fabulism, and commented to you that just about everyone I love in San Francisco except for Violet and my sister was in this room right now.]

[Healthy? I don't know, but happy. It's moment to moment, as you said later, but the moments are all we ever really have.]
