So, Baby, You DO Know What That's Worth

[It's from an old meme chez Sam, but it's what I'm in the mood for today...]

30. The Spice Girls (Desert Sky Pav., Phoenix)

[I've seen several of these acts more than once, and really had to sweat to squeeze out thirty separate ones. I never would have been able to do it if John and I hadn't ushered for a season or two at the Warfield and the Fillmore.]

[N.B. My first was dear Belinda, the Heaven on Earth tour, Santa Barbara Bowl, spring 1988. And I'm not afraid to admit it! What that means is that I saw a lot of the "80s bands" above long after the 80s were past. Some of them really should've sunsetted when the 80s did, but a few were, I think, improved with age. Bow Wow Wow? They ROCKED Slim's in 1999. Who would've thought?]

[Later (7/7): According to Ultrasparky, comedians who are like rockstars count, so I'm adding Sandra Bernhard (Ventura Theatre; UCSB Campbell Hall; Slim's; Brava Theatre), Graham Norton (Alcazar Theatre) and Margaret Cho (Warfield) to my list. Call them the Annex.]
