Hooked Up!

[Yes, it is in fact past the middle of the night. I'm too excited to sleep. The stars finally aligned in such a way that I have a NEW COMPUTER. I've been playing with my Mac Mini all night. The joy of iTunes. The thrill of eighty gigs of potential. Sean's huge flatscreen monitor. The actual computer is a little box, smaller than some sandwiches I've eaten. It's a miracle, and I think it's gonna give me some hope, some incentive to get back out there and participate in the world.]

[It had better, because the trip to the Apple store at Stockton & Market made me feel old, fat, unhip, unconnected, and in serious need of a haircut. Jessica and Sean went with me. They're both Mac addicts from way back, and when plunging into new waters, it's good to have guides.]

[The only disappointment so far: the doohickey at the end of Sean's (now my) monitor cable fit none of the adapters that came with the machine, nor with any of the machine's ports. Jess and I went back to the store today (yesterday) and I was required to purchase a realllly fancy one for more money than I felt appropriate. Anyone have better ideas about adapting a big flatscreen Apple monitor to a Mini? I have two weeks to return...]

[I also want to write about the trip to Seattle, but maybe that will wait. For now, if you're traveling thru Redding, Cal., be sure to stop at the Sundial Grill of Highway 44 west. An ample, lonely, rather excitable young woman named Tamara really needs some excitement in that redneck town, and she'll make you a kickass cocktail to get the party started. Try to convince her that instituting Toga Night is probably a bad idea, especially in the upper Sacramento Valley.]

[My sister's baby shower is in nine hours, my first trip to Glide is in 31 hours, and while I'm looking forward to both occasions, after this week, the extended weekend, and the previous one with my mother and Tom Jones, I'm ready to hole myself up in the studio apt., look for work, and see what this wonder gadget can do.]
