[The scene: Work this afternoon, Charlotte and I are alone. I'm in a sad, bad mood (holiday poverty, health issues). Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark's singles collections are playing on the stereo, 'cause if you know I'm DJing, it's all '80s, all the time.] [ME: I'm in a bad mood, and I don't think OMD's helping.] [(Not that OMD are the Smiths or anything, but some of their early stuff, when not tinkly-winkly, was kinda plodding.)] [CHAR: Yeah, it's kinda slow. Whaddaya got instead?] [ME: How about the B-52's? Wild Planet?] [CHAR: Yeah! Totally!] [I put the CD in, "Party Out of Bounds" comes on, and I start bopping around the room, trying to force the mood-upswing. I look at the jewel case, and see the album's release date.] [ME: This album's 25 years old.] [CHAR: Oh, shit.] ["I'll give you prunes, I'll change your Depends..."] Previously Next |
