February 06, 2006 - 8:40 AM Urban Legend [The rest of the weekend...] [Saturday was Date Day with Chris: we met in the Haight, where he presented me with the hilarious Autobiography of Bigfoot. We took a revivifying stroll thru Buena Vista Park; dared to dine at the Pinecrest, that notorious greasy spoon where the cook murdered a waitress (or vice versa - the urban legend is murky); and saw Good Night and Good Luck at the Lumiere. Dating is good.] [Yesterday was Stupor Bowl Sunday, and I followed my once-every-four-years custom and watched it at my sister's. I discovered that when you don't see your baby niece for five weeks, she'll grow. I was as surprised as you are. None of the other members of my family underwent anything like that growth in the last five weeks, you'll be relieved to know.] [Despite occasionally highly vocal support from our section of Noe Valley, Seattle still lost. It was pleasant to know that I still know how football works, but for me it's sort of like camping: I experienced it so much growing up that I don't have a special need to see/do it ever again. I'm not averse; I'm just not going to go out of my way.] [It was good to see the family, though. My parents are celebrating forty years together in a couple of weeks, and they're planning a swank weekend in San Francisco. They've invited their kids to what promises to be le diner très fancy one evening. I'm not amazed exactly, but I do admire their determination in sticking together thru adversity.] | |
