July 14, 2006 - 9:29 AM Beatnik Beach, It's Really Neat [Max made me happy this morning by emailing me the link to this L.A. Times article.] [It wouldn't be summer without 'em.] [Speaking of summer, this one's going by fast, which could be said of life in general as one realizes one is just as close to forty as to thirty-five. One is also reminded that one is coming upon one's ten-year anniversary of leaving summery Santa Barbara and landing with a thud in chilly San Francisco. (By the way, I also totally missed my six-year blog anniversary last week.) Ten years ago today, I was a. very conscious of the fact that my days down there were numbered, and b. was, therefore, cutting quite a debauched, if desperately lonely, swathe thru town while my then-roommate, the aforementioned Max, was visiting his grandmother or something in the Garden State. Good times, good times.] [(The low self-esteem referenced in that diary entry, by the way, has lessened to some extent, but is still with us. I rarely worry about being as "cool" as the people with whom I find myself thrown together; however, there are other, more tenacious issues, as I confided to a very good friend at unnecessary length last night. Thanks for listening, Caro.)] | |
