While AT&T Park isn't Candlestick, it's still San Francisco...] [...Barry Bonds is so overrated, until he's not...] [...it's still fun to holler "Beat L.A.! Beat L.A.!"...] [...similarly: "Alooooouuuuu!" and "Happy Pete!" for Moises Alou and Pedro Feliz, respectively...] [...and, if you're sitting on the right field line, making that ascending "ooooop!" when the relief pitcher tosses to his foxy-in-a-Dodger-blue-fleece warmup catcher, and descending "woooo" when the catcher tosses it back, is oddly fun...] [...after the 7th inning stretch, if one team's ahead by more than three runs, there's no real reason to stay in your seat. I think Dodger fans invented this rule to avoid traffic on the Hollywood Freeway, but S.F. fans have learned it, too. If the Giants are losing, you might as well go home, 'cause the weather's not going to get any warmer, and neither will the mood of the crowd. If they're winning, why not take a promenade around the stadium, and let yourself be in the mood to gaze at dozens of unobtainable young sacks of testosterone who are milling about, and feel energized by the experience? Two beers is perfect to sustain the mood, while three is too many...] [...while both the ballpark and the Folsom bars are both technically South of Market, it's a long walk when there's frigid gale blowing in directly from the Farallones...] [...just to secure the copyright on Allen's behalf, I announce the T-shirt slogan that everyone will be wearing next season: "More Is The New Less" ...] [...and, finally, you never really need that last Mandrin-soda-cranberry at the Power House.] | |
