From Backyard to Backyard

[Charlotte successfully turned 40 with a big party in the backyard of Dolores House on Friday. (They've been a little slack with the backyard barbecues this summer, and now summer's really over! Bleah.) She has lots of talented friends, so there was much guitar-strumming and impromptu readings delivered in Her Nibs's honor. I gave a little toast discussing how important she's been to me in the last year and half, or so. People don't necessarily save your life, but their affection can make it seem more worthwhile to save your own.]

[What isn't going to save my life is indulging so enthusiastically in the killer tequila punch Char put together to go with the Mexican feast she ordered in from the excellent Los Jarritos. And what did Gregory, Sean, Allen and I decide to do after the party wound down? Yes, the Castro. Yes, I kissed boys, plural. Yes, I'm a public spectacle that should be suppressed. (Follow-up date this week with Kissee #2, though, hopefully.)]

[Next up, thru a bit of a hangover the next day: my niece's first birthday party, an afternoon outdoor event at my sister and brother-in-law's in Noe Valley. Audrey was a trouper, delicately picking at her choco-cake instead of mashing her fist thru it as expected. I spent possibly a little too much at Baby Gap for her that morning. I don't even like clothes shopping for myself (obviously), but I get all gooey when I see the miniature garments. Cuuuuute!]

[Yesterday, I almost finished this writing project for Violet on my own, but ended up at her house out in the fogbound avenues until very late rewriting and editing. Writing for money is hard, but once I got into the flow...well, it's difficult to imagine anything I'd rather get paid for more. (With sentences like that, someone should pay me not to write!)]

[Somewhere in all this I managed to get some boxes unpacked and some laundry done. My house is not a home yet, but it's getting there.]
