January 21, 2007 - 5:42 PM Warm-ish [Another great day yesterday walking Allen and the Dog Bruno thru a very crowded Castro (the first warm-ish day of the new year having brought everyone out), and up Corona Heights to those red rocks at the top of the hill. (Jonno has moved from his October perch, fyi. It's a perch I'd not visited in 10 1/2 years as a San Franciscan.) We proceeded down 14th Street (where Allen and I both lived in the mid-90s, but at different times, and We Never Met) and then finally really went nuts by turning right on Valencia Street and gawking at 1998-vintage Urban Hipsters (and at a couple of Objects of Desire who own Urban Hipster Emporia).] [Re: yesterday's "eggs in one basket" dilemma: I'm such an idiot. After leaving Allen in the Castro last night after two brief cocktails, I came home, and grabbed the bull by the horns. As usual, I needn't have worried. It was great, it was even better this morning, and as a result, I've spent much of today like one of those male lions of the savannah you see on the Discovery Channel. Laying about, lazy and sated...] ["I needn't have worried" may be my motto for 2007.] [And now it's time for my Sunday evening phone call to my mother. This "tradition" was instituted when I first went away to college, in response to a vague imprecation we'd heard and joked about for years to "call your mother every Sunday." I haven't stuck to it with anything like consistency, but every once in a while I surprise her by doing it. I haven't heard about Mexico yet, so off I go.] [Oh, hey! If any of my three readers are on LastFM, add me, OK? I want to know what you're listening to.] Previously Next[Later: My mom, my sister, and my niece all got some virus from an unclean flauta or something and were very sick driving from Sayulita to Guadalajara. Apparently, tempers frayed a bit after the fifth upchuck in the rental car. I can't say I'm sorry to have missed that. Apparently there's a good pediatrician in Ajijic, if you're ever in need.] [Also, I just ended a nice Yahoo IM chat with John in Denver, during which I got real-time updates during the last five minutes of the Colts-Patriots AFC championship game. Since John's hubby is from Indianapolis, they were going nuts as the Colts came back in the last two minutes to win. Sometimes I miss being an active football fan; this one sounds like it was really fun to watch.] | |
