Faits accomplis

[There is something to be said for cuddling with someone all night during a rainstorm. To employ a phrase I've always disliked: just sayin'. There's also something to be said for being able to kick him gracefully out when the time comes. This has been a good twelve hours.]

[Max's ninety-third imprecation to the effect that I'm way, way overdue for a visit to the second of my three hometowns finally had its presumably desired effect yesterday. Car is reserved, day off has been secured, and I think the financial wherewithal will be in place. I had thought to drag Allen with me, but his new job will keep him here in all-the-leaves-are-brown-and-the-sky-is-gray San Francisco. (He needs to accompany me thither soon for a couple of reasons...maybe that will happen this spring or summer.)]

[Therefore, a week from today will find me "driving down the 101," avoiding a ticket thru the notorious King City speedtrap, deploring how cutesy-winery Paso Robles has become, and maybe detouring thru the Santa Ynez Valley to revisit a few landmarks I last saw in Sideways. Santa Ynez's cutesy-wineriness was a fait already accompli when I left the county ten and a half years ago, so I it doesn't bug me. But Paso is supposed to be rednecks at the Mid-State Fair, not yuppies sipping oaky chardonnays, dammit!]

[Watched The Devil Wears Prada last night again, this time with Allen, who hadn't seen it. I won't be disappointed if Meryl Streep gets another Oscar; no, I haven't seen Notes On A Scandal or Volver yet, so keep your horrified cards and letters.]

[Today, as the rain continues to fall: taxes; laundry; inquire about a lead on a place to live near both Dolores House and my sister, brother-in-law, and niece. It's a bit above my budget, but it's past time to shake my myself out of some of my absurd but just-good-enough comfort zones. This will be a first step.]
