July 18, 2007 - 4:22 PM Ursula To Umbridge [Today's big lunch topic with Allen and Sean was whether we late-30s/very-early-40s types would be looking for a daddy or a son here, if we were to post profiles. "Life is full of difficult choices... i'n't it?"] ********* [I go today to chat with my new flatmates. Yes, as of August 1st, and after nine years, I will no longer be living in the lower Nob Hill/upper Tenderloin part of the beautiful green forest. I moved to Post and Leavenworth in September 1998 to share an apartment with John (and Sean, initially, followed by many and varied roommates); moved to a house around the corner on Jones in October 2003 with J., Allen, and Arthur (and John and I broke up two months later); to a studio up the hill in May 2004; and finally into a shared apartment on Geary last fall.] It does feel like the end of an era, and about time, too. I guess you could say I'm really just trading crack dealers on the corner for heroin addicts in the park, but I think life on the Panhandle will be different in every way imaginable. My question: does this mean I have to change my email address? After all, "dtapt" has stood for "downtown apartment" since '98, and I'm no longer going to have too many reasons to go east of Van Ness. More dilemmas!] ********* [This is the Summer of Other People's Pets and Vehicles. I spent much of the first half of July hanging at my parents' while they avoided killing each other on the roads of Catalonia, Navarre, Andorra, Languedoc, and/or Aquitaine, driving their cars, watering their plants, and feeding the Cat Bo. There's been a bit of looking after the roommate's dachshund in the past week, and even a day with the Dog Bruno. ANNND...I'll be spending much of August not in my new living situation but housesitting for Boss-Man, caring for the Ridiculously Large Mastiff, and driving his SUV. It's not all bad, but there are a lot of logistics involved.] ********* [Trent Lott called habeas corpus a "nicety" the other day, according to an NPR report about those gosh-darn Guantanamo detainees. A nicety!] ********* [Imelda Staunton for Best Supporting Actress!] ********* [My Mulhersinha is blogging again.] [As, apparently, am I...] | |
