[I'm never sure what is means, really, to have one's letter printed in the paper. At least half the letters, even I if I agree with their general point, seem to be written by crazy cranks and printed for sheer color value. Also, they prefer short statements using standout language that doesn't always allow for nuance. Knowing that, I used push-button words and kept it brief. It's not as though having one's letter included says much about depth, breadth or felicity of expression as one vents one's spleen.]

[Whatever. It makes me happy to see it. This is the second time I've had a letter in the Chronicle. The last time, someone actually went to the trouble to send me physical hate mail, and that was in response to a much more esoteric point. I wonder if some redneck from Fairfield will take up the gauntlet. I kinda hope so.]

[It also helped me get in the right frame of mind for my first day at the new job. I'm nervous! But, cornily enough, I find myself humming snatches of that confidence song from The Sound of Music, the sing-along version of which Mom, Annabelle and I saw at the Castro Theatre yesterday. It feels like the first day of school. Off I go...]
