[My favorite quote so far in the Chronicle's roundup coverage today of the people behind California's marriage-equality victory is Jewelle Gomez on what fighting for this meant to people who weren't sure if they themselves wanted to marry or even if they approved of marriage:] ["I say look back at the civil rights movement - people did not risk their lives at Woolworth's because the food was good."] [If it's not about the food at Woolworth's (i.e., the material benefits of marriage being extended to same-sex relationships in California), what is it about? Ask the plaintiffs in Brown v. Board of Education if that was actually about going to school together in Topeka.] Previously Next |
